WHO ARE WE?

TEMPO (The Edge Musical Performing Organisation) is an Amateur musical theatre company for young people, aged between 10 - 20 years. Based in North Cheshire, we currently rehearse in Alderley Edge and put on a show each March at the Evans Theatre, Wilmslow giving our members an amazing performing experience. We were originally known as SCAMPS but changed our name to TEMPO in 2013.

Over the years we are proud to have received numerous awards from both NODA and ACT for all aspects of our productions including individual performers, backstage crew, choreography, direction, musical direction and ‘Best Musical’.

On this website you’ll find plenty of useful information about TEMPO and our history, past shows, past members, current show, how to get in touch and how to book tickets.

TEMPO, originally known as SCAMPS was established in 1982 by our now President Barbara Herd when she was approached by a young man named Paul Walsh who wanted some help putting on a show - The Wizard of Oz, which was performed at Pownall Hall School with Barbara making all of the costumes and persuading her husband Peter of Peter Herd Bakery to sponsor it.  As the idea of a Cheshire based youth musical theatre company began to grow, so did SCAMPS, the next year they performed Oliver!, but this time Barbara as well as being responsible for the wardrobe bought in some friends and contacts to help, and formed a committee. The year after that, Bugsy Malone was the show of choice, with up to 40 young performers taking part, and SCAMPS was officially formed with Barbara Herd as the Chairman.

Over the years SCAMPS has continued to grow, putting on a huge variety of musical productions which have included, West Side Story, The Will Rogers Follies, Half a Sixpence, Barnum, Guys & Dolls, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Starlight Express and CATS.

The committee recently paid tribute to Barbara “She has been the inspiration that has kept TEMPO going for over three decades, helping us manage the many changes, rules and regulations involved with working with young people, over the years TEMPO has given many young aspiring member the chance to work with some of the best directors, musical directors and choreographers, with professional musicians, sets, lighting and sound engineers. Now President of the society she is still involved on a day to day basis, making costumes and supervising rehearsals”.
